Getting started with Dungeons & Dragons

You heard of this game. Your friends are playing and you feel a bit like an outsider because you never played. Maybe your friends just don’t have time to show you.

You want to get started and here’s how.

Who is this for?

Players come in many shapes and size. They are often between the ages of 15 and 35, but that is not a fast rule at all. If you’re younger or older, that’s quite alright as well.

Grab your friends and enter the dungeons!

What you need

Dice

There are many options for dice you can choose from. When you start, you only need a small set of seven.

Players

Grab a few friends or find a group to join. Groups can range from 3 to 6 players, though you may want to start small.

Rules

Rules are simple, but numerous. If you can get your hand on a few basic handbooks and keep them handy, it’ll go a long way.

Sheets

There are many different character sheets you can use, ranging from official to fan-made. Or you can just write it down on a loose piece of paper, whatever works.

Running a Campaign

Running a campaign seems like a big task, but it’s actually pretty easy once you start. If you’re new and don’t feel up to crafting your own story, you can use any number of pre-made adventures from creators and fans alike. After that, you’re good to go.
